5 Denmark Street represents the last in our series of sensitive interventions to this heritage block within the St Giles Conservation Area.
The existing 1690’s townhouse had been altered significantly over more than three centuries, including poorly planned infill additions in the yard space and mews to the rear.
We were approached by the owner of 5 Denmark Street to revive the existing Grade II building with a full refurbishment and a new cohesive extension to the rear.

The townhouse had undergone significant modifications from 1800 onwards, including an additional floor and the incremental infill of the rear mews with warehouse structures.
We gained consent to remove unsympathetic alterations and refurbish the original townhouse, restoring the street facade and historic shopfront as well as a 19th century Sword Cutlers workshop to the rear.
Original warehouses are strengthened for future use and a new lightweight extension - intentionally different to its 17th and 19th century hosts – is added as a timber framed structure, referencing traditional workshop spaces and framing views to St Giles-in-the-Fields Church spire.
The careful integration of modern servicing and fire regulation compliance will ensure that the historic building meets current tenant needs and secure its future use.

Currently on site, our work at 5 Denmark Street will restore the significant building with considered refurbishment and sensitive additions, complementing the wider masterplan for this historically important Soho location.
Retaining the music shop at street level and providing modern office space on upper floors will safeguard the building’s contribution to the cultural heritage of Tin Pan Alley.
